Course Overview
This course has been specifically designed for learners without a background in the Community and Social Services (Client Services) Eldercare industry. This competency unit enables the learner to participate in planning, conducting, documenting and reporting of activities based on clients needs.

Course Outline
Part 1 Participate in planning activities for clients
- Establish profile and conditions of clients accurately
- Consult relevant stakeholders using appropriate communication methods to identify the specific needs of clients and potential barriers to participation
- Participate in planning appropriate activities by considering relevant factors to meet clients needs
- Obtain approval for the proposed activity plan in accordance with organisational procedures
- Prepare resources and services for activities in accordance with organisational policies and procedures
Part 2 Conduct activities to meet clients needs using the person-centred approach
- Assess clients suitability for participation in activities prior to commencement, taking into consideration their special needs and barriers to participation
- Gather resources for activities in accordance with the activity plan
- Prepare clients for participation in activities in accordance with established organisational procedures
- Conduct activities according to plan and Workplace Safety & Health (Healthcare) Guidelines
- Make adjustments to activities according to conditions and clients needs
- Apply appropriate techniques and person-centred approach to support the well-being of clients with dementia during activities
- Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours that minimise the impact on clients
Part 3 Document and report conduct of activities
- Report conduct of activities clearly and accurately in accordance with organisational guidelines
- Highlight incidences and abnormalities in a timely manner and in accordance with organisational guidelines
