What is Data Science Bootcamp @ Kaplan?

Kaplan Professional (part of Kaplan Learning Institute) is bringing the highly successful US-based Metis Data Science Bootcamp to Singapore with an Asian perspective, with the support of the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA). Participants will learn modern data science skills and tools, advanced techniques and tools, such as Python, SQL, machine learning, interactive data visualisation and other modern big data tools and architecture.

The Data Science Bootcamp is conducted over a period of 12 weeks (not including 25 hours of pre-work). That is 7 hours a day; 5 days a week; over 12 weeks. Prior to graduation, participants are required to complete five projects for their online portfolio – four smaller projects designed to “train up” different key aspects of data science and a Passion Project that they can present to potential employers. Proposals for Passion Projects will be reviewed and approved in advance by the Metis Faculty member(s). Upon successful completion of the programme, graduates will be awarded a Data Science Certificate. In addition to the bootcamp training, participants will also receive career coaching, talks and advisory sessions throughout the course of the bootcamp.

This duration does not include the additional career coaching, talks and advisory a participant will receive throughout the course of the bootcamp.

Bootcamp Learning Objectives

After completing the bootcamp, a participant will be able to:

• Have a fluid understanding of and practical experience with the process of designing, implementing, and communicating the results of a data science project.
• Be a capable coder in Python and at the command line, including the related packages and toolsets most commonly used in data science.
• Understand the landscape of data science tools and their applications, and be prepared to identify and dig into new technologies and algorithms needed for the job at hand.
• Know the fundamentals of data visualisation and have experience creating static and dynamic data visuals using JavaScript and interactive data visualisation.
• Have introductory exposure to modern big data tools and architecture such as the Hadoop stack, know when these tools are necessary, and be poised to quickly train up and use them in a big data project.

Completion

You will receive a Metis Certificate of Completion and Transcript for the Data Science Bootcamp that is recognised as possessing equal merit as the same certificate and transcript received by students who complete the Data Science Bootcamp programme at Metis in the USA.

Throughout the course of the Bootcamp, you will also complete five data science projects that are uniquely your own that can be included in your professional portfolio when applying for a data-science-related career. These projects demonstrate your ability to design, implement and communicate the results of data science projects for business usage; which is a highly sought-after skillset in data professionals.
